FBA Awards $25K grant to '6 to 76' Program


Feb. 22, 2017 – The Florida Beverage Association (FBA) is pleased to announce the award of a $25,000 grant to the ‘6 to 76’ program of the “I’M A STAR” Foundation, Inc., a foundation dedicated to empower youth to become solution-oriented leaders in their respective schools and communities. The ‘6 to 76’ program provides the opportunity for school aged children and senior citizens to become healthier together and is focused on Health Zone 1 in Duval County.

The goal of the FBA Grant Program is to support initiatives that advance healthy and environmentally sustainable Florida communities. The grant is jointly funded by the Florida Beverage Association and the.

“The Florida Beverage Association and its member companies are committed to improving the communities where we live, work, and play,” said Liz Castro DeWitt, Executive Director of FBA, the trade association for Florida’s non- alcoholic beverage industry. “It is important to make sure that Floridians of all ages and backgrounds understand that nutrition and physical activity are the building blocks of living a vigorous, healthy and balanced lifestyle.”

“I’M A STAR” Foundation exists to ‘fixate’ our nation on the need to collectively focus on the well-being of youths in the areas of education, family and social environment, economic circumstances, health care, physical environment and behavior,” said Betty Burney, Executive Director of “I’M A STAR” Foundation. “Students in the I’M A STAR Foundation are resolute in their desire to create healthy solutions for their communities. The ‘6 to 76’ project is an opportunity for I’M A STAR to bridge generation gaps by having 4 generations eating, moving, communicating and getting healthier together.”

The American Beverage Foundation for a Healthy America strives to make a significant contribution to the health of local communities by providing grants to support community organizations that work to advance both the physical health of their local citizens and the environmental health of their communities. The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) created and funded by America’s non-alcoholic beverage industry and reflects the industry’s long-standing tradition of giving back to communities.
