Florida Beverage Assoc. Announces Community Grant to the City of Orlando

Orlando SkylineThe Florida Beverage Association (FBA) announced the City of Orlando as its 2020 spring grant recipient. The community grant will help the City of Orlando with its “ReThink Your Waste” Interactive Display program which raises awareness of recycling best practices in order to strengthen the circular economy.

St Augustine, Fla. ─ “The Florida Beverage Association and its member companies are committed to working with those who share our goal of environmental sustainability and improving the communities where we live, work and play,” said Elizabeth Castro DeWitt, President of FBA, the trade association for Florida’s non-alcoholic beverage industry. “The City of Orlando’s ‘ReThink Your Waste’ program will help increase the collection of recyclable materials and ensure that valuable recyclable materials, like plastic bottles, do not end up in places where they shouldn’t, like in our parks, waterways or in landfills. We are excited to collaborate with the city so that we can create a more sustainable future for generations to come.”

“The City of Orlando is committed to working with residents, business owners and community partners to protect our natural resources and ensure a better quality of life for future generations,” said Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer. “We are excited to be working with The Florida Beverage Association to develop an interactive educational exhibit centered on a campaign to ‘ReThink Your Waste.’ This hands-on experience will teach guests about the importance of waste diversion and their role in the circular economy.”

“America’s beverage companies believe strongly in the power of industry, government, community groups and consumers coming together to improve the environmental health of our communities,” said Katherine Lugar, president of the American Beverage Foundation for a Healthy America (ABFHA) Board of Directors and president and CEO of the American Beverage Association. “We are pleased to partner with the Florida Beverage Association to provide the City of Orlando a grant that will bolster recycling education throughout the region so that we can all work towards creating a truly circular economy.”

Orlando’s “ReThink Your Waste” campaign emphasizes the do’s and don’ts of recycling to decrease contamination of recyclable materials which will improve collection rates and preserve the environment.
