The Florida Beverage Association (FBA) announces Fitzgerald Washington as Chair of its Board of Directors.
“I am deeply honored to serve as Board Chair of the Florida Beverage Association at such a pivotal time for our industry,” said Fitzgerald Washington. “Florida’s beverage industry is a powerful economic engine — driving job creation, supporting local businesses, strengthening supply chains, and contributing significantly to economic growth across our communities.
“As Chair, I am committed to advancing forward-thinking policies, fostering innovation, and championing responsible leadership that promotes both industry development and long-term sustainability. Together, we will build on our strong foundation and position Florida’s beverage industry for continued growth, impact, and leadership in the years ahead.”
Washington brings decades of leadership experience across workforce development, public service, and the beverage industry. He now serves as Corporate Director of External Affairs & Community Engagement at Buffalo Rock Company, one of the nation’s largest privately held beverage bottlers.
Prior to returning to the private sector, Washington served for ten years as Secretary of the Alabama Department of Labor, making him the longest-serving secretary in the department’s history. During his tenure, Alabama achieved record-low unemployment and historic workforce participation levels, driven by expanded job training initiatives, statewide employer engagement, and targeted outreach to underserved communities.
Washington’s leadership extended nationally through his service as Chairman of both the National Association of State Workforce Agencies and the National Association of Government Labor Officials, where he helped shape workforce policy and best practices across the country.
“Fitzgerald’s career reflects a deep commitment to people, opportunity, and strong partnerships,” said Liz DeWitt, President/CEO of the Florida Beverage Association. “His experience in both public service and the beverage industry brings valuable perspective as FBA continues supporting Florida’s beverage system, workforce, and communities.”
In addition to his professional roles, Washington has served on numerous civic and business boards focused on economic development, small business growth, and community advancement. Earlier in his career, he spent more than 15 years at Buffalo Rock Company in senior sales and marketing leadership roles and continues to serve on the company’s board of directors.
As Board Chair, Washington will help guide FBA’s strategic priorities, industry engagement, and efforts to support a strong, responsible beverage industry in Florida.
